BAGHDAD, Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley condemned Wednesday the killing and kidnapping of Iraqi protesters, and said Washington would support the Iraqi people who were fighting for a free and independent Iraq.
Milley made the remarks during a meeting with Iraqi Defense Minister Najah Al-Shemmeri and Iraqi army chief of staff Gen. Othman Al-Ghanemi, the US Embassy in Baghdad said in a statement.
Milley and the Iraqi officials discussed the further promotion of military cooperation and partnership, it added.
“The common goal for both countries is a united, democratic and prosperous Iraq,” said Milley, who condemned the killing and kidnapping of protesters and activists.
More than 5,000 US forces are deployed in the center and north of Iraq.
