WASHINGTON, Feb 8 (KUNA) – US President Donald Trump announced Friday the members of an official US delegation to China to discuss the trade relationship between the two countries.

The White House said in a statement that the US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin travel to Beijing “for principal-level meetings” that will take place from February 14-15, 2019.” It added that these meetings will be preceded by “deputy-level negotiations that will begin on February 11.” This announcement comes following the visit last month of an official trade delegation from China for meetings that are part of the agreement reached by President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Buenos Aires on December 1, 2018, “to engage in 90 days of negotiations with a view to achieving needed structural changes in China that affect trade between the United States and China.” Trump had said that he thinks a trade deal can be reached with China by March 1st, when tariffs against Beijing are scheduled to be raised to 25 percent.
