“We are not going to do denuclearization incrementally” — US N. Korea rep.

WASHINGTON, US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun said on Monday that the US is not after the gradual nuclear disarmament of North Korea, but complete denuclearization.

“We are not going to do denuclearization incrementally,” Biegun said at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace’s nuclear conference.

He said that US President Donald Trump “has been clear on that and that is a position around which the US government has complete unity.” Biegun added that the US “will not lift these sanctions until North Korea completes the process of denuclearization.” President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s second summit in Vietnam last month ended without signing an agreement due to differences on US demands for Pyongyang’s denuclearization and North Korea’s demand for sanctions relief.
