White House denies Mattis urged Trump to consult Congress ahead of Syria strikes

WASHINGTON, The White House on Thursday denied news reports that President Donald Trump ordered the missile strikes on Syria earlier this month despite being urged by Defense Secretary James Mattis to delay the strikes until the President received approval from Congress.

“Reports that Secretary Mattis urged the President to seek congressional approval before last week?’s strikes in Syria are categorically false,” said a statement from White House press secretary Sarah Sanders.

As Secretary Mattis explained to Congress in yesterday?’s all-member briefs, the President appropriately ordered the strikes under his constitutional authorities.
