A Kuwait-hosted conference on reconstruction in Iraq will enable Baghdad to reach out to the rest of the world, said an official on Tuesday, expressing hope that the meeting next week would meet its objectives. The unprecedented turnout for the “Kuwait International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq” on February 12-14 buoys hope that the talks are likely to succeed, Mohammad Abulhassan, the head of the conference’s media committee, told KUNA on the sidelines of his meeting with Iraqi journalists.
He pointed out that the participation of prominent bodies such as the United Nations and European Union makes the event all the more significant.
Abulhassan, who also serves as advisor to the Amiri Diwan, said that Iraqi journalists are arriving in droves ahead of the conference, a testament to their unflinching desire to restore stability and security in their country.
The Kuwaiti official added that the committee encourages the Iraqi journalists to freely go about their business in order to give an event of such magnitude the exposure it deserves. Donor countries and organizations from across the international community are expected to announce financial aid to Iraq at the meeting next week.
