The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cautioned Thursday against dangerous situation at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, south of Ukraine, that was occupied by the Russian forces.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
In a press statement, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the overall situation at the plant “remains perilous”.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
“I once again call for a commitment from all sides to secure nuclear safety and security protection at the plant,” he said.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
For three weeks, the plant has been provided only through a main external electrical line, he noted.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
“Without the backup line, any damage to the 750 kV line [main external power line] will result in total loss of all off-site power to the plant,” Grossi elaborated.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Earlier, Grossi has announced the importance of setting up a protection zone around the plant.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
However, as the battle becomes strong at the vicinity of the plant, Grossi said that his initiative remains no longer proposed on the agenda amid these tough conditions. The Ukrainian plant has been under the control of the Russian forces for more than one year. All its reactors have been shut down.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
