30,000 Displaced Yemenis in Hajjah Governorate Benefit from Water and Sanitation Services in 2023 Thanks to KSrelief

Hajjah, The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) has worked to improve the water and environmental sanitation services for 30,100 internally displaced persons in Yemen’s Hajjah Governorate in 2023.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by the KSrelief, attaches great importance to supporting the water and environmental sanitation sector in Yemen, given its critical significance to the life of individuals, and society as a whole.

KSrelief achieved this through three main activities: it increased access to safe drinking water by drilling and rehabilitating three solar-powered wells in two villages in Hiran district and in one village in Abs district; it constructed four concrete water storage towers in the same two districts, and installed four solar-powered water desalination stations with a capacity of 8,400 liters per hour in the districts of Hiran, Abs, and Harad, to provide clean and safe water to the communities.

KSrelief also helped reduce the rate of infectious diseases by col
lecting and transporting solid waste, to mitigate the health and environmental risks associated with waste accumulation.

At the same time, KSrelief focused on improving the local community’s capacity to manage water and sanitation infrastructure, as well as personal hygiene, by carrying out maintenance work on wells, desalination plants, water distribution networks, concrete water storage towers, and water distribution tanks.

It distributes personal hygiene kits and mobile bathrooms to improve the living conditions of displaced individuals and maintain the overall cleanliness of targeted areas.

These efforts are part of the humanitarian and relief projects provided by the Kingdom, represented by the KSrelief, aiming to improve the Yemenis’ living conditions during the current humanitarian crisis.
