3rd Saudi Water Forum Concludes with Key Recommendations for Water Sector


Riyadh, The third Saudi Water Forum, held under the theme “Water Sustainability: Our Responsibility,” took place in Riyadh from April 29 to May 2. It concluded with recommendations aimed at increasing investment in dams, employing modern technologies to reduce water wastage, enhancing storage capacity, lowering operational costs, and developing surrounding areas and lakes for tourism and recreation.

The forum comprised dialogue sessions, discussion panels, workshops, and an exhibition, attracting global participation from decision-makers, government officials, experts, and specialists. Participants deliberated on solutions, exchanged recommendations, and shared knowledge and technologies. They also reviewed successful experiences and best practices in water project development to address Saudi Arabia’s needs and ensure sustainability throughout the supply chains.

Key recommendations from the forum include implementing integrated water resources management (IWRM) principles and governance, as well as increas
ing investment in research and development, particularly for environmentally friendly desalination technologies. Participants emphasized efficient asset management, the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, and adherence to best practices throughout the water supply chain to reduce costs and extend infrastructure lifespan.

Other recommendations involve promoting the use of reclaimed water, prioritizing renewable water projects, updating legislation to encourage rational water consumption, establishing strategic partnerships with local and international private sector entities, utilizing investment funds for infrastructure development, and adopting holistic approaches integrating water, food, energy, and the environment.

Participants stressed the adoption of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to automate operations and drive digital transformation in the water sector. Lastly, they highlighted the importance of raising public awareness about water conservation through research cooperatio
n and dissemination of information via various media channels.
