African Union 36th Summit resumes in 2nd session

ALGIERS, The 36th African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government summit resumed Sunday, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa in a closed session.

The ordinary session is about the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCFTA) with the participation of 34 African leaders and 51 delegations.

The African Union said in a statement that the African leaders will work for the second and last day in closed sessions to discuss the implementation of the (AFCFTA), peace and security in Africa, and combating climate change.

In addition to the challenges of food security, in addition to evaluating the implementation plan for the first ten years of Africa’s vision for Horizons 2063, as well as the reform of the UN Security Council, Chairperson of African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahammat added in a statement.

The current period is also witnessing a decline in economic growth at the global level during the last three years, while working to support solidarity between countries, threats of terrorism alone prompt the question of African solidarity, he noted.

Meanwhile, during the first day of the summit, Senegal’s president officially handed over the chairperson position to the Comoros president as well as expelling a Zionist delegation.
