The President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud Al-Amiri, confirmed that the democratic system in Iraq needs to build constitutional institutions and a correct electoral system.

The Federal Supreme Court media said in a statement: ‘The President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud, received the Italian ambassador to Baghdad, Maurizio Cricanti, and his accompanying delegation at the headquarters of the Federal Supreme Court in Baghdad.’

The statement added, “The President of the Federal Supreme Court welcomed the Italian ambassador in Baghdad, and during the meeting they discussed developing relations between the two friendly countries and enhancing joint cooperation in all fields and the necessity of continuous communication and meetings to exchange legal expertise in the field of constitutional judiciary because of its importance in supporting the democratic process to achieve The sovereignty of the law and the constitution, as the Federal Supreme Court in Ba
ghdad opened the horizons of communication with its counterparts in the Arab and international world and learned about the experiences of countries in this field to support the political and democratic process in Iraq.

Al-Amiri explained that ‘the democratic system in Iraq needs to build constitutional institutions and a correct electoral system, including the presence of a fair electoral law and an independent election commission, while taking into account the provisions of Article (110) of the Constitution regarding the exclusive powers of the federal authorities and Article (117) of the Constitution regarding the approval of the Constitution of the Republic.’ When Iraq enters into force, the Kurdistan region and its existing authorities will become a federal region.’
