Al-Sudani confirms the government’s commitment to taking care of the Yazidis, supporting their rights and rehabilitating their areas

The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani, received, this morning, Saturday, at his residence in the city of Mosul, the Emir of the Yazidis in Iraq and the world, the head of the Yazidi Supreme Spiritual Council, Hazem Tahsin Bey, and the Baba Sheikh of the Yazidi religion, Sheikh Ali Elias Hajji, and their accompanying delegation.

At the outset of the meeting, Al-Sudani expressed great pride in the people of the Yazidi religion, within the spectrum of our Iraqi society and people and its creative diversity, referring to the united national positions taken by the Iraqi Yazidis in their confrontation with terrorism, and their confrontation with all schemes that tried to uproot their deep Mesopotamian roots, and their adherence to their country, Iraq.

The Prime Minister affirmed the government’s commitment to taking care of the Yazidi component and all other components, supporting their rights and rehabilitating their areas, by establishing service and economic projects within the government program, in a way that facilitates the return of displaced Yazidi families to their homes.

He referred to the decision of the Council of Ministers to own real estate and residential lands for Yazidi citizens whose ownership was suspended by the previous regime due to its discriminatory policies, as well as continuing to implement the Yazidi Survivors Law and other components, and compensating them for the barbaric attacks they suffered at the hands of the terrorist gangs of ISIS, and granting their full rights approved by the law and the rights of martyrs and victims.

For his part, Prince Hazem Tahsin Bey and his accompanying delegation thanked the Prime Minister and appreciated the government’s steps in caring for the Yazidi people, appreciating the Cabinet’s decision to consider the Yazidi New Year an official holiday for the Yazidis, and the Council’s decision to own real estate and residential land belonging to Yazidi citizens, which was suspended by the former regime within its discriminatory policies.

The delegation also expressed its appreciation for the government’s decision to activate the work of the Special Committee on Sinjar compensation and the rights of Yazidi martyrs and survivors, reconstruction efforts and inclusion in social care, and other decisions related to cultural rights, and its efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and combat hate speech.
