Another Khan party-led provincial assembly dissolved in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, The provincial assembly in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) has been dissolved, the second such move in less than a week as former Prime Minister Imran Khan pushes for early national elections.

The governor of (KPK) Haji Ghulam Ali, on Wednesday signed a letter dissolving the provincial assembly with immediate effect.

The move came days after the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly, the country’s largest provincial assembly, on the advice of the Chief Minister of Punjab, Pervez Elahi.

Meanwhile, the opposition leaders of the two provincial assemblies along with former Chief Ministers are now required to consult and decide candidates to propose for the appointments as the caretaker chief ministers in both provinces within the next three days.

The Election Commission of Pakistan is now bound to hold free and fair elections in both provinces in 90 days after the dissolution of the assemblies.

The political scene got complicated in the country with the dissolution of two assemblies and a hint from the former PM Imran Khan that his party has approved the initiation of the process to ask Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif to take a vote of confidence from the National Assembly.
