Chinese Pres. expects Saudi Arabia, Iran to continue to improve ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday expressed his country’s hopes that Saudi Arabia and Iran will uphold the spirit of good neighborliness, and continue to improve their relations based on the results of their talks in Beijing.

The state-run Xinhua News Agency, quoted President Xi as saying during a phone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud that “China is ready to support and follow-up the process of the Saudi-Iranian talks.

“China is ready to work with Saudi Arabia to implement the outcomes of his state visit to Saudi Arabia, the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit last year, and continue to firmly support each other on issues involving their respective interests,” the president said. The Chinese side also stands ready to expand practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges with Saudi Arabia, and push for greater development of China-Saudi Arabia comprehensive strategic partnership, he added.

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to restore diplomatic ties after talks facilitated by China, a significant development for the two nations and a boon to the security and stability of the Middle East.
