Denmark announces the closure of its Embassy in Iraq next month


Baghdad, Denmark announced that it will close its Embassy in Iraq on May 31.

She explained in a statement that: ‘With the withdrawal of the majority of the Danish military contribution, the main mission of the Danish Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq has been completed, so the government decided to close the Embassy as of May 31, 2024.’

Denmark officially opened its diplomatic mission in Baghdad in 2020 to support the Danish military leadership contributing to the NATO mission in Iraq.

Since then, Copenhagen has withdrawn the majority of its soldiers from Iraq.

Denmark has been a member of the international coalition against ISIS since July 2014 and had 300 soldiers and military advisors in Iraq and Syria.
