EU expresses grief over helicopter crash in Ukraine

BRUSSELS, The European Union (EU) Wednesday expressed grief and condolences to Ukraine over the crash of a helicopter in a suburb of Kyiv in which Ukraine’s interior affairs minister Denys Monastyrsky was killed.

“We join Ukraine in grief following the tragic helicopter accident in Brovary. Minister Denys Monastyrsky was a great friend of the EU,” President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said on his twitter message.

Michel expressed his “deepest condolences” with the families of the victims and the people of Ukraine According to media reports, at least 18 people were killed, including Ukraine’s interior affairs minister, after a helicopter crashed beside a nursery in Brovary in the eastern suburb of the capital Kyiv.

Monastyrsky was with eight others in the helicopter. His first deputy minister and the state secretary also died.
