EU seeks new plan to provide Ukraine with arms

MUNICH, The European Union (EU) seeks to formulate a new plan to supply Ukraine with further arms in its nearly one year-long war with Russia, the bloc’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Sunday, without providing further details. The plan aims to address any “shortage” of arms the Ukrainian military may face, the EU’s top diplomat told the Munich Security Conference, citing a “new strategy.” On the new plan, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen expressed her confidence that the EU’s “joint interest” would inevitably lead to the provision of more weapons to Kyiv following warnings by Ukraine that its forces lack adequate supplies against Russian bombardments.

The remarks by the top EU officials come as the Munich Security Conference draws to a close, where EU member states are shoring up support to provide Ukraine with further military aid in its war with Russia.
