EU to provide financial support to armed forces of Moldova and Georgia

The European Union (EU) Thursday announced two assistance measures in support of the Armed Forces of Moldova and Georgia “to enhance national security.” The adopted assistance measure for Moldova is worth 40 million euro (USD 44 million) over a period of 36 months and will finance non-lethal equipment, supplies and services, said an EU statement.

The 30 million euro (USD 33 million) assistance for Georgia will cover a period of 36 months, and finance non-lethal equipment, supplies and services, to the Georgian military.

“With these new assistances, we continue to support the modernisation of the capacities of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova and the Georgian Defence Forces,” said Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
