Foreign Minister heads Kuwait’s delegation in Yemen’s donor Conf.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah headed on Monday Kuwait’s delegation in UN-led donor conference in Geneva.

The conference aims to help the humanitarian situation in Yemen, collect financial and aid pledges to Yemen.

The goal of the conference is also to raise awareness on the severe humanitarian situation there, support aid operations, protect basic human rights there, and to end the conflict among all parties involved and to ensure that the Yemeni people live in peace.

On occasion, Sheikh Salem delivered a speech expressing gratitude for the hosting nation, and all international exerted efforts to coordinate aid and ease the suffering of the Yemeni people.

The minister also recalled UN and various agencies of their vital role in helping ease the traffic situation in Yemen.

Sheikh Salem reminded participants that Yemenis are still suffering from tremendous challenges, the worst of its kind, and needs urgent help due to the worsening situation in all parts of Yemen, which spread to more than eight years now.

The minister noted that based on directives of His Highness the Amir and in response to United Nations call, “I would like to announce that the State of Kuwait, through Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), is to provide three additional grants worth USD 5 million in cooperation with international agencies, with the aim of supporting the infrastructure sectors and those related to economic recovery programs and livelihoods.

In addition, the grants is improve Yemeni port facilities, bringing the total contributions of Kuwait to support the humanitarian situation in Yemen since the beginning of the crisis to approximately USD 730 million.

In conclusion, the State of Kuwait, the minister said “believes that the best solution to end these difficult humanitarian conditions in Yemen requires a political will that supports the restoration of security and stability and the revival of the peace process.” “We also reaffirm the approach of the State of Kuwait and its firm and steadfast stance by committing to supporting international efforts seeking to reach a final, peaceful and lasting solution that ends the painful reality and achieves stability and prosperity for Yemeni people, based on the three agreed upon references, including the relevant Security Council resolutions, foremost of which is Resolution 2216 (2015).
