Head of Government Chairs First Meeting on Implementation of ‘Moroccan Offer’ for Green Hydrogen

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch on Tuesday chaired the first meeting on the implementation of the “Moroccan Offer” for green hydrogen.

The meeting, which was attended by Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit, and Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Minister Leila Benali, comes in application of the High Royal Directives contained in the Royal Speech delivered on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the Sovereign’s accession to the Throne of His glorious ancestors.

Additionally, the meeting was also attended by Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate for Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, and a representative of the Moroccan Agency for Solar Energy (MASEN).

Minister Benali stated in a press release following the meeting that Morocco has the capacity to produce green hydrogen and its byproducts, such as methanol and ammonia, which are utilized by OCP.

The meeting marked the beginning of Morocco’s focus on utilizing available data for green hydrogen projects. The analysis will primarily target data pertaining to green hydrogen.

Further analysis will examine the potential that Morocco offers to both domestic and foreign investors in wind and solar energy, as well as the necessary infrastructures such as ports and pipelines that could support the field of green hydrogen.

This ministerial meeting aimed to implement the “Moroccan Offer” for green hydrogen. Mr. Jazouli reported that a clear roadmap was established for the upcoming weeks and months to respond promptly to investors interested in this offer.

This meeting builds upon the speech given by HM King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of His accession to the throne of His ancestors.

In this Royal Speech, the Sovereign had called on the government to expeditiously and efficiently implement this project, in order to capitalize on the Kingdom’s assets in this sector and respond as effectively as possible to the projects proposed by global investors in this promising field.”

In November 2022, HM King Mohammed VI instructed Morocco to create an appealing and efficient “Moroccan Offer” for the green hydrogen industry. This should cover all aspects of the value chain, including the regulatory and institutional framework, as well as required infrastructure.
