Iran warned the United States of America on Saturday against attacking its military bases in Syria threatening to retaliate immediately for any such offensives.
Official news agency, IRNA, quoted spokesman of the Supreme National Security Council Keivan Khosravi as saying that the Iranian bases in Syria had been established in response to a request by the Syrian Government to confront militants of the organization, the Islamic State.
Attacking these bases will face counter action, instantly, he warned.
Washington had declared that Iranian-backed groups based in Syria attacked the American bases killing a US contractor and wounding at least five American military personnel earlier in the week. It had declared that the American forces retaliated for the attacks.
