Iraq recalls Charge d’Affaires from Manama

Iraq’s Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein recalled Tuesday his country’s Charge d’Affaires in Manama after an official protest from Bahrain over the Iraqi envoy’s breaching of the diplomatic norms and interference in the Kingdom’s internal affairs.

In a brief statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said the minister ordered that the Charge d’Affaires of the Iraqi Embassy in Bahrain Muayyad Omar to return back to the ministry headquarters in Baghdad.

The move comes within the framework of the ministry efforts to bolster Iraq’s diplomacy and retain diplomatic norms, added the statement.

Earlier, the Bahrain Foreign Ministry summoned the Charge d’Affaires of the embassy of Iraq to Bahrain Muayyad Omar and informed him of its regret and dissatisfaction with the repeated violations of diplomatic norms.

Bahraini Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani informed the Iraqi Charg?© d’Affairs of the ministry’s condemnation of his recent behavior that does not comply with diplomatic protocols and his diplomatic duties as Charge d’Affaires of the embassy of Iraq in Bahrain.

He stressed that it is an unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain and contradicts the principles governing relations between states as per the Charter of the United Nations.

The minister handed the Iraqi Charge d’Affairs an official letter of protest.
