A Kuwait-based charity and the United Nations (UN) refugee agency UNHCR signed on Monday a deal worth USD 400,000 in aid to Syrian refugees in Jordan, the second such agreement between the two sides.

The deal agreed between the UN’s refugee agency and the local Sheikh Abdullah Al-Nouri charity aims to meet the “basic needs” of these refugees, including food aid and healthcare assistance, according to the UNHCR’s representative to Kuwait Nisreen Rubaian.

The more than a decade-long conflict in Syria, coupled with the COVID-19 pandemic, has worsened the misery of the more than six million Syrian refugees across the globe, the UNHCR official emphasized. More than 2,000 Syrian refugee families residing in the Hashemite Kingdom will be the beneficiaries of the aid, the Kuwaiti charity’s chief Jamal Al-Nouri said, promising to ratchet up humanitarian endeavors that come to the aid of the impoverished.
