Kuwait-Egypt relations exemplary, 30,000 Kuwaitis study in Egypt — envoy

The Egyptian Ambassador to Kuwait Osama Shaltout said on Saturday that the Kuwaiti-Egyptian relations, deeply rooted in history, are an example to be followed at the level of states’ ties.

The ambassador, in a meeting with local media personnel, lauded Kuwait’s support for his nation, noting Egypt’s backing for Kuwait during various events, pledging to seek to cement further these close bonds.

Egypt, since President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi took the helm of power, has witnessed unprecedented wide-scale development, particularly in towns’ construction, mega projects, infrastructure, ambassador Shaltout said, urging Kuwaiti entrepreneurs to take advantage of the economic boom in Egypt and invest in industrial and agricultural sectors, namely in the international Suez canal region, as well as in the digital realm and smart industries.

He indicated that the two countries would hold bilateral consultations, within framework of the joint commission headed by the two countries’ foreign ministers, due to meet in Cairo in February.

Ambassador Shaltout also alluded to increasing coordination in the educational sector, revealing that the number of Kuwaiti students in Egypt increased to 30,000 in 2021, higher by 20 percent as compared to the previous year.

At the Gulf level, the envoy affirmed that Cairo and the GCC states have been cooperating on the Iranian nuclear file, also noting that the two sides’ views on the issue have been identical.

Elaborating, the ambassador underscored Kuwait’s noticeable role within quarters of the Arab League, also with respect of the issue of clearing the Middle East of weapons of mass destruction. Moreover, he indicated at regular bilateral coordination under umbrellas of the international legitimacy and the International Atomic Energy Agency concerning this topic.

He re-affirmed Egypt’s unwavering stance as to the keenness on safeguarding security of the GCC states, as their “security is inseparable from that of Egypt.” Kuwait’s Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah, last Tuesday on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between the two countries, expressed admiration of the deep-rooted brotherly ties between the two countries and peoples
