Kuwait FM meets UN Humanitarian affairs official Griffiths

On the sideline of UN-led donor conference in Geneva, to help the humanitarian situation in Yemen, Kuwait Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah met on Monday with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths.

The meeting highlighted the close relations between the State of Kuwait and the United Nations and its various agencies and bodies, and discussed current developments on the humanitarian situation in Yemen, Syria and Ukraine.

During the meeting, the two also discussed mechanisms for delivering emergency relief and humanitarian aid to those affected by the devastating earthquake that struck Gaziantep and Kahramanmaras in Turkiye and Syria, and Kuwait’s aid to Yemen.

For his part, Griffiths expressed his deep appreciation to the Kuwaiti leadership, government and people, and his gratitude for the pioneering and distinguished humanitarian role played by the State of Kuwait in supporting the afflicted and affected peoples.

He praised the Kuwaiti humanitarian position in providing relief and assistance to those affected by the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria, including the establishment of an air bridge to deliver urgent relief aid to those in need.

Griffiths also praised donations by Kuwait, which reflects on the strong ethical stand of the Kuwaiti people, who embodied the international designation of the State of Kuwait as a center for humanitarian work and its prominent position in the field of humanitarian work regionally and internationally.

At the same time, he appreciated the continuous support provided by the State of Kuwait to Yemeni people.
