Kuwait FM welcomes German MP, state min.

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Thursday met with visiting German MP and Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office Tobias Lindner.

During the meeting, they discussed close relations between both friendly countries and ways of promoting them, along with Schengen visa-free travel for Kuwaiti citizens.

The Kuwaiti foreign minister underlined that it is necessary not to “politicize” the Schengen visa-free travel decision, noting that the State of Kuwait cherishes its democratic system and principle of separation of powers enshrined in the constitution.

He, further, categorically rejected interference in Kuwait’s internal affairs just as stated by international law, while voicing his country’s willingness to promote its relations with friendly peoples.

He restated that Schengen visa-free travel is merely a means, rather than a goal, to develop relations with other countries and to strengthen friendly people-to-people ties.

For his part, the German guest voiced his country’s support for existing strategic relations between Germany and Kuwait in all fields, commending Kuwait’s wise and balanced foreign policy, along with its efforts to safeguard regional security and stability, and its unwavering stances at international bodies, specifically the United Nations (UN).

He said he understood the Kuwaiti foreign minister’s views about the Schengen visa-free travel for Kuwaiti citizens.
