Kuwait Int’l Airport exceeds global aviation safety criteria levels

Kuwait International Airport’s compliance with international civil aviation safety standards exceeded 77.45 percent in 2022 as per criteria put in place by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), more than global average of 69.54 percent, an official said Tuesday.

ICAO’s civil aviation safety criteria’s compliance for Middle East is around 76 while international average is 69.54 percent, Duaij Al-Otaibi, Deputy Director General of Aviation Safety, air transport and aviation security at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), said in a statement to KUNA.

Kuwait’s ranking “is excellent,” he told KUNA in an interview, and ICAO “has no comments on Kuwait International Airport.” Kuwait Aiport, he added, would witness improvement in safety measures once Terminal two (T2), equipped with latest security technology, completed.

The State of Kuwait, said Al-Otaibi, attached great importance to civil aviation security.

DGCA and Ministry of Interior, he noted, placed security systems that were complying with international standards which encouraged airlines to fly to Kuwait.

DGCA is inspecting inbound and outbound aircraft in line with Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft (SAFA), he said, in addition to regular inspection of local carriers.

DGCA carries out constant verification of airlines’ safety compliance “and some companies which do not aibde by them were suspended.”
