Kuwait-led Arab talks yield new consumer law guidelines

Kuwait on Tuesday chaired pan-Arab talks over new financial duty rules covering a regional free trade area, a measure aiming to introduce policies to better protect consumers.

The new guidelines take into account suggestions pitched by Arab states on the matter, said Faisal Al-Ansari, who heads a Kuwaiti commerce ministry apparatus to monitor the price of goods. Besides boosting consumer protection and ensuring a better quality of goods, the new rules also promote methods for more “sustainable consumption,” added the Kuwaiti official.

Given the “mounting significance” of consumer protection measures, the talks yielded new financial guidelines that meet international standards, according to Bahjat AbuAl-Nasser, the Arab League’s economic integration department chief.
