Kuwait oil ministry given judicial powers to track environmental violations

— Kuwait’s Oil Ministry said on Sunday it has assigned judicial powers to some seven members of its staff in a bid to clamp down on environmental violations, a by-product of a deal it signed with the country’s environmental body.

The move has been completed after seven of the ministry’s personnel were deemed “qualified” to carry out these duties “for the first time ever”, a ministry statement quoted Undersecretary Dr. Nimr Al-Sabah as saying.

On these staff members’ new roles, he underlined that it primarily entails pinpointing the location of any environmental infraction, and subsequently reporting it to relevant authorities, added the statement.
