– Kuwait on Wednesday said it fully backs Egypt and Sudan’s efforts to “preserve their legitimate water rights,” amid a dispute with Ethiopia over the filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Cairo and Khartoum’s attempts to solve the GERD dispute are in “accordance with the rules of international laws,” said a Kuwaiti foreign ministry statement.

It urged the international community to ensure that any solution to the quarrel should be “based on international conventions” that would serve the collective interests of the three countries (Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia).
