Kuwait, Tonga establish diplomatic ties

The State of Kuwait and Kingdom of Tonga signed a joint statement to establish diplomatic relations and enhance cooperation in various fields.

The document was signed by Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi and his Tongan counterpart Viliami Va’inga Tone at the headquarters of Kuwait’s mission to the UN.

Al-Otaibi welcomed the establishment of such relations, stressing keenness of the State if Kuwait to cooperate with small countries in international forums regarding UN issues. For his part, Tone expressed his country’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations on all issues discussed at the UN.

Tonga joined the UN as a full member state in 1999. A Polynesian kingdom, Tonga has more than 170 South Pacific islands, many uninhabited.
