Kuwait, US defense chiefs eye closer ties amid talks

Kuwait’s Defense Minister Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Sabah held talks on Wednesday with visiting US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, focusing on improving bilateral relations and current developments around the world.

The Kuwaiti defense minister spoke of the upward trajectory in his country’s ties with Washington, particularly on the military front, citing frequent military exchanges between both countries as he recalled US contributions towards Kuwait’s security.

Holding a luncheon in honor of the US defense secretary, he expressed Kuwait’s eagerness to propel bilateral relations to greater levels, as per the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The US defense secretary expressed a mutual desire for better bilateral ties, saying such progress would help bring common goals and ambitions to fruition.

He went on to thank Kuwait for its help after the US completed the evacuation of its citizens in Afghanistan, which was the largest airlift in American history.
