Kuwaiti charities continue relief, aid work in Syria, Turkiye

Kuwaiti charities continued their relief work a week after the recent devastating earthquake that killed thousands of people and destroyed buildings and facilities in Syria and Turkiye.

The Executive Director of Namaa Charity, Saad Al-Otaibi said, in a telephone call with KUNA Monday from the Turkish region of Antioch, that Namaa continues its various charitable activities since the first day of the disaster, at the forefront of which are the mobile clinics that have received more than 4,000 patients so far.

In addition, the group was able to provide 56 cartons of medicines to help medics stationed there.

Al-Otaibi added that the bakeries of Namaa Charity distribute on a daily basis more than 7,500 bread bundles, 1,500 meals, 2,500 food baskets, in addition to distributing basic needs, including 37 tents to shelter the displaced, 700 blankets, 700 mattresses, and 8,000 bottled water.

Al-Otaibi noted that there is a team consisting of 40 people equipped with field relief equipment, aiming to participate with its counterparts in Syria and Turkiye to search and excavate the missing among the rubble or recover the dead from the earthquake, noting that the situation in Syria and Turkiye is one of the “tragedies of the current century.” On another front, in a statement to KUNA, Abdullah Al-Shahab, Head of the Programs and Projects Sector at Al-Najat Charity said that the his people made achievements in terms of field aid and relief materials to help those affected by the earthquake in Syria and Turkey, as more than 2,500 families, equivalent to 10,000 people, have benefited from it.

Al-Shahab added that what distinguishes the association’s teams is the ease of rapid transportation and the urgent response to humanitarian calls for the presence of relief workers for Al-Najat Charity who are ready to deal with crises and humanitarian disasters, indicating that it has opened a medical clinic that provides first aid for the sick, the wounded, the injured, the elderly and children.

He added that the association has been providing a pharmacy to provide a useful drug service and the establishment of a central kitchen to distribute hundreds of hot meals daily, in addition to distributing food baskets and means of heating to families since the first day of the disaster.

For his part, Walid Al-Suwailem, head of the Turkey and Levant office at the International Mercy Association, said in a similar statement to KUNA from northern Syria that the association diversified in providing urgent relief to those affected by the earthquake since the first moments of its occurrence, specifically in the governorates of northern Syria.

Al-Suwailem confirmed that the association continued to work on preparing a center to shelter the displaced in those areas, which includes 500 tents, equipped with foodstuffs, distribution of bread, warm meals, canned food, and water bottles, in addition to heating means and basic supplies that suffice the need
