Kuwaiti Environment Public Authority launches awareness campaign on protecting islands, Bay

Environment Public Authority announced today a campaign, to be launched next week, to spread awareness about taking care of the environment, coral reefs and natural recourses in Kuwaiti Bay and islands.

Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, Director of Public Relations and Media Department, tells KUNA that the campaign’s slogan is “have fun but keep the islands clean,” is coinciding with summer which usually see an increase in number of islands’ visitors, urging them to keep the isles clean.

Al-Ibrahim adds that this campaign aims at keeping islands’ visitors and fishing enthusiasts aware on the consequences of breaking the environmental protection law as well as spreading awareness to the majority of people on the importance of islands to enrich the country’s coral cover.

She points that the campaign includes visitors of islands of Kubbar, Garouh and Um Al-Maradem as well as Kuwaiti Bay to highlight the importance of keeping the islands clean and following the environment protection law by throwing waste in the dedicated places only.

She also mentioned that the Public Relation and Media team work round-the-clock in order to educate the public on the importance of preserving the environment until it turns into a cultural and social behavior.

She adds that the team visits the islands during the weekend to make sure visitors comply with the environmental laws.

Al-Ibrahim drew attention to coordination with Kuwait Municipality to enforce the law to protect Kuwaiti beach and islands, and to also increase awareness on keeping the places clean by adding more waste containers.

Al-Ibrahim praised the efforts of the Coast Guards who provided transportation to the islands as well as their role in monitoring and protecting Kuwaiti islands and ensuring their cleanliness.
