Kuwaiti envoy heads to US to discuss lifting citizens off terrorism list

Kuwaiti Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Cooperation, Ambassador Hamad Al-Mashaan will head to New York tomorrow to meet with Ombudsman Richard Malangum to discuss lifting some Kuwaiti citizens from the Security Council’s lists concerned with combating terrorism.

In a statement Saturday, the foreign ministry said that this meeting comes under the directives of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah.

Al-Mashaan chairs the Committee to Rehabilitate the Names Listed on the Security Council Lists Concerned with Combating Terrorism emanating from the Committee for the Implementation of Security Council Resolutions under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter related to combating terrorism.

The committee also includes the Ministry of Interior (State Security Service), the Ministry of Health (Psychiatry), Kuwait University (College of Sharia), the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, and the Public Prosecution.

The Ombudsman is concerned with evaluating any person placed on the Security Council’s special terrorist lists by reviewing the list’s file and its activities before and after its inclusion through research, investigation and request for information.
