Kuwaiti Official: IOM plays commendable role in caring for disaster victims

Kuwait’s permanent envoy to the United Nations Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen commended Wednesday the humanitarian role of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in caring for victims of armed conflicts and natural disasters.

This came in Al-Hayen’s statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following his meeting with IOM chief, Antonio Vitorino, at its headquarters in Geneva.

The two discussed challenges facing humanitarian situations around the world. Vitorino stated that the rapid succession of hardships including coronavirus pandemic, the food security issue and energy crisis is causing an accumulation of crises.

Ambassador Al-Hayen stressed to the UN official Kuwait’s support to organization in providing care to victims, namely Arab nations including Syria and Yemen, and other nations suffering from effect of climate change including, Horn of Africa and Pakistan.

Vitorino conveyed the thanks and gratitude of the organization to Kuwait, calling it a main partner in facing regional and international crises, Al-Hayen added.

He also affirmed role of humanitarian organizations’ and called on international community to provide support enabling organization to fulfill its role.
