Kuwait’s EPA: Plastic collection, recycling competition aims to protect environment

The Environment Public Authority (EPA) said, Sunday, that the plastic collection and recycling competition recently launched aimed to protect the environment from harmful waste and raise community awareness of environmental affairs.

EPA director of public relations and media Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, told KUNA that the competition would be an annual event held in different areas of the country.

Within the framework of this competition, the authority organized events in the Mishrif area in which more than 150 participants participated, as about 650 kilograms of plastic was collected for recycling, she said.

The first three winners were awarded with KD 500, 200 and 100, she added. Pointing that the plastic waste will be transported to recycling plants as soon as possible to be disposed of in safe ways.

The focus was on plastic, as it is one of the pollutants most affecting the environment, and in the coming years, the focus will be on other wastes such as oils, paper waste and other waste that have a negative impact on the environment, Al-Ibrahim said.

The recycling will be done in Al-Salmi area, and there is a step to convert waste into energy, she said, stressing Kuwait continues support to waste recycling.
