Kuwait’s foreign minister voices satisfaction at outcome of Arab meeting

KUWAIT, The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah said on Sunday that today’s Arab ministerial meeting was different as compared to previous conferences at this level.

The session was distinguished with free atmosphere for the participating ministers to discuss matters without strains or a set agenda, he said at a news conference with the Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul-Gheit after the meeting.

“It was a brain storming session where the ministers spoke freely,” minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmad added, indicating that there was consensus to hold the ministerial meeting regularly twice a year, in March and September.

It was a fruitful gathering and the engaged ministers presented explicit proposals, pin pointing the problems in the Arab world, he added.

Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Al-Nasser stated that he was honored with the meeting, earlier today, with His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, with attendance of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, where Sheikh Mishal gave instructions intended for bolstering Arab-Arab solidarity in line with the breadlines of the State of Kuwait foreign policy.

On Houthi militias’ attacks on the region, the minister noted that all Arab states during the recent emergency meeting at the level of delegates at the Arab League utterly condemned these criminal and terrorist offensives, namely those launched on Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

There is international understanding of the necessity to face such hostile acts that threaten the Arab nation security, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad said.

For his part, Abul-Gheit said the Yemeni foreign minister presented during the meeting a document shedding light on the efforts for settling the Yemeni crisis politically. “However, the Houthis reject such a settlement backed by a regional power whose intervention in this strife is so clear,” he elaborated.

The Arab League, six years ago, formed a committee grouping Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt, to follow up closely on the Iranian acts in the region. This commission submits a report to the ministerial council twice a year.
