Kuwait’s Nazaha chief pledges boost to public services

Head of the Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha) Abdulaziz Al-Ibrahim on Thursday affirmed commitment to the approach aimed at improving efficiency of public services and governance.

In his keynote speech inaugurating the “the international forum for combating corruption,” Al-Ibrahim indicated that the authority composed the forum logo, “digital transformation and its role in boosting integrity and fighting corruption,” for highlighting the digital development and in line with Kuwaiti new vision 2035, government’s objectives and the national strategy for boosting integrity.

The United Nations Convention against Corruption was the first such global step in the fight against corruption, he said, noting that it aims at immunizing communities, unveiling and punishing the corrupt, as well as facilitating states’ cooperation for retrieving embezzled fortunes.

He expressed appreciation for the relentless efforts exerted by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the secretariat general of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption, affiliate government teams, the UN development program for boosting international cooperation.

He cited some excerpts of the UN convention, stating that corruption is a negative phenomenon that affects societies and economies, stressing the need for collective action in fighting the scourge.

Nazaha has organized the forum to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day, falling on Friday.

The one-day forum comprised representatives of government and private institutions, academics, local and foreign experts, representatives of the civil society, UNODC, the Saudi Oversight and anti-Corruption Authority, Kuwait Central Agency for Information Technology, Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science, the Kuwaiti Information Technology Society and various associations
