Kuwait’s crude oil exports to Japan in September jumped 16.0 percent from a year earlier to 5.96 million barrels, or 199,000 barrels per day (bpd), for the first increase in two months, government data showed Friday.

As Japan’s fourth-biggest oil provider, Kuwait supplied 8.1 percent of its total crude imports, the Japanese Natural Resources and Energy Agency said in a preliminary report.

Japan’s overall imports of crude oil in September grew 15.3 percent year-on-year to 2.47 million bpd, up for the second month in a row. Shipments from the Middle East accounted for 92.7 percent of the total, up 2.2 percentage points from the year before.

The United Arab Emirates remained Japan’s No.1 oil supplier, with imports from the country soaring 33.0 percent from a year earlier to 895,000 bpd, followed by Saudi Arabia with 855,000 bpd, down 0.3 percent. Qatar ranked third with 208,000 bpd and Bahrain fifth with 83,000 bpd, respectively.

Japan is the world’s-third biggest oil consumer after China and the US.
