Makkah Ranks 52nd Globally, 5th in Arab World, 2nd Locally on Smart Cities List


Makkah, Makkah was ranked 52nd globally on the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) index of smart cities. It was ranked fifth in the Arab world, and second in the Kingdom after Riyadh.

This progress indicates that Makkah is ready to use modern and advanced technologies, which can improve the quality of life for residents and visitors, make it an attractive environment for investment, and create opportunities.

Makkah’s services have contributed to creating a sustainable urban environment, raising the level of services, enhancing community participation, and efficiently utilizing available resources.

According to the CEO of the Royal Commission for Makkah and Holy Sites, Engineer Saleh bin Ibrahim Al-Rasheed, Makkah’s advanced global position on the smart-cities list is due to the unlimited support it receives from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and HRH the Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Makkah.

He also praised th
e efforts made by all sectors operating within the city, which are working to enhance its global position and exert more efforts to make Makkah a secure and advanced center that achieves the ambitions of the leadership in serving the residents of Makkah and its visitors and harnessing all capabilities to improve the quality of life.

The IMD index highlights the readiness of cities and their use of advanced technologies to face challenges, improve the quality of life for residents, and create an attractive business environment.
