Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Wednesday stressed Lebanon’s determination to end the war, renewing the country’s “literal adherence” to UN Resolution 1701.
“After more than ten months of war on Lebanon and Gaza, we are still paying a hefty price,” Mikati said at the beginning of a cabinet session at the Grand Serail. “We are adamant about stopping the war, and we stress Lebanon’s clear and literal adherence’ to the provisions of Resolution 1701 and to fully implementing them,” he underlined.
According to Mikati, the implementation of the said resolution is key to reaching any solution.
“There are wary chances for the diplomacy that is mobilizing to prevent war and halt the Israeli aggressions; the foreign tours with foreign presidents and leaders, as well as with Arab brothers, have been stepped up, given the gravity of the Lebanese and regional situation,” he said. He vowed that his government will employ all its “capacities and friendships to protect the country and condemn Israel’s criminal
acts.” He also deplored that the Israel’s “intransigence is threatening the war cessation efforts.”
“In these difficult times, we need to reinforce unity among the Lebanese,” he said. He then announced that in order to avert further tension over the situation of the state institutions, he decided to withdraw an item on filling the vacancy of a number of public posts from the cabinet session’s agenda.
