Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity Launches Cataract Surgery Campaign with Program of Connected Mobile UnitsENEMY AIR RAIDS TARGET SOUTH LEBANON’S JABAL BLAT, OUTSKIRTS OF TOWNS OF RAMIA AND AITA AL-SHAAB

In a concerted effort, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity is set to embark on a cataract surgery campaign from March 1st to March 3rd, 2024. This initiative is part of the ongoing implementation of the Connected Mobile Medical Units program (UMMC – FMVS) in the provinces of Sefrou and Boulemane.

The UMMC – FMVS digital health program, operational since January 30th, aims to enhance accessibility and availability of quality healthcare in rural and remote areas. The Foundation reports that the program is already yielding practical results, particularly in identifying cases requiring surgical intervention.

Utilizing tele-expertise in ophthalmology, medical teams have diagnosed one hundred and twenty (120) patients with cataracts in the mountainous regions of Sefrou and Boulemane, deeming them eligible for surgery.

In a strategic move complementing existing healthcare services, the Foundation will deploy its intervention system in three rural locations: Tachot Imlal, Tassa, and Ait Khabach. These sites,
situated in proximity to the UMMC – FMVS facilities, have been selected to broaden access to specialized care in surgical procedures.

Logistically, four mobile units, including two ophthalmic surgery platforms, radiology, and biology, have been mobilized for the campaign. Specially designed rest areas have also been established to ensure the smooth functioning of surgical activities and post-operative checks.

This collaborative effort is organized in partnership with local authorities, regional health departments, and the Moroccan Medical Association of Solidarity (AMMS). The latter is contributing mobile surgery units and a team of ophthalmic surgeons.

A total of thirty medical professionals, including specialists, general practitioners, and paramedics, will participate in the solidarity operation. The campaign will be conducted simultaneously in two phases: March 1st and 2nd in Tachot Imlal and Tassa, followed by March 2nd and 3rd in Ait Khabach and Tassa.

The Foundation emphasizes its commitment to con
tinuing and expanding such surgical campaigns based on feedback and activity indicators from UMMC – FMVS operations nationwide.
