MoI: Municipal vote arrangements in full swing

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior said on Monday it has already geared up for the municipal elections due next Saturday, with 38 rivals vying for the votes of 438,283 people in eight precincts.

The ministry’s undersecretary Gen. Anwar Al-Bargjas, who is in charge of the municipal elections, said all services and facilities will be at the disposal of all candidates and voters in order to ensure a smooth electoral process.

In a press statement, he voiced much thanks and appreciation to the ministry’s personnel for their great efforts in view of security, traffic and organizing measures ahead of the vote.

However, called on them to remain prepared until the race is over and to take immediate and decisive action against anything that could negatively affect the election.

There will be no vote in both seventh and 10th constituencies where the only two candidates have already won uncontested, the ministry’s legal affairs head said in a statement.

There are 17,820 voters in the first constituency, 26,951 in the second constituency, 33,785 in the third, 83,018 in the fourth, 39,588 in the fifth, 60,150 in the sixth, 94,081 in the eighth and finally 82,890 in the ninth, he elaborated.

The ministry’s official warned that voters should handpick only one candidate or the ballot would be invalid.
