A delegation of the Moroccan Parliament is taking part in the 2nd session of the 6th legislature of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), which is held from May 8 to June 2 in Midrand, South Africa.

The program of this session includes a conference on the theme of the African Union for the year 2023: “Accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area: the strategic importance of the Pan-African Parliament”, to examine the role that the PAP can play in the success of this flagship continental project, said the Moroccan Parliament in a statement.

This project is an essential tool to achieve the vision of African countries towards continental economic complementarity and structural transformation of the African economy, the statement added, noting that participants will follow the presentations of many AU experts to present the details and objectives of this major project.

In addition to meetings of the standing committees and regional and thematic groups, the agenda of the session includes the third Summit of African Parliamentarians on Climate Policy and Equity, a high-level meeting with representatives of the European Parliament and the Civil Society Forum, as well as presentations and discussions on peace and security in Africa in light of the latest disturbing developments in several African states.

The Moroccan Parliament is represented by House of Representatives deputies Laila Dahi of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), Khadija Arouhal of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) and Abdessamad Haiker of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), and by House of Councillors deputies Youssef Aidi of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and Hanaa Benkhair of the General Union of Moroccan Workers (UGTM).
