Morocco outlined Friday in Geneva its efforts to protect intellectual property and provide targeted support to the various components of the national economic fabric.

Speaking at the Sixty-Fourth Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Director General of the Office Marocain de la Propriété Industrielle et Commerciale (OMPIC), Abdelaziz Babqiqi, highlighted the Office’s initiatives, mainly focused on digital transformation and targeted support for the various components of the national economic fabric. These initiatives have led to a positive evolution in national and international industrial and commercial property title indicators, following a gain of 10 spots in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2022.

Babqiqi also emphasized the actions undertaken in the field of copyright and neighboring rights to strengthen protection in this area through the adoption of two laws in 2022.

The Moroccan delegation, headed by Omar Zniber, Morocco’s Ambassador, Permanent Representative in Geneva, underlined its strong attachment to multilateralism as a suitable catalyst for the evolution of international relations, assuring that WIPO is one of the economic organizations essential to the revival of this instrument.

The participation of the Moroccan delegation will continue in the work of the General Assemblies through exchanges with WIPO management on future cooperation activities within the framework of the Kingdom’s relations with this important international organization.
