OIC Secretary General Calls for Immediate Release of Niger’s President

Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha, who is following with great concern developments in the Republic of Niger, an OIC member state, following reports that the legal government was toppled, has strongly condemned any attempt to seize power by force, and called for the immediate release of President Mohamed Bazoum, the democratically elected president of Niger, and for ensuring his safety and the restoration of the rule of law in the country.

Taha stressed that OIC attaches great importance to instating peace, security and stability in Niger, as well as in the entire Sahel region, and expressed support for the regional efforts toward that end, and his full solidarity with the people of Niger.
