Pakistani minister dies in road accident

Pakistan’s Minister for Religious Affairs, Mufti Abdul Shakoor died in a road accident in federal capital Islamabad, said police late Saturday.

According to Islamabad police chief Inspector General Akbar Nasir Khan, the minister was driving his car alone when he collided with another vehicle. He confirmed that the religious affairs minister died on the spot from head injury.

Shakoor was an elected member of the National Assembly belonging to the religious political party Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) from the erstwhile tribal areas. Five people in the other vehicle were taken into custody by police while an investigation initiated.

President of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have expressed sorrow over the news. In a statement, Shehbaz said Shakoor was a practical scholar, an ideological political activist and a good human being.
