The president of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) Fortune Charumbira hailed, on Monday in Johannesburg, Morocco’s important role in this continental legislative institution.

The relations between Morocco and the Pan-African Parliament have been strengthened, reaching very advanced levels, said Charumbira during a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Councillors Enaam Mayara, on the sidelines of the second ordinary session of the PAP sixth legislature held in its headquarters in Midrand, a suburb of Johannesburg.

Emphasizing the convergence of views between the two parties on many issues affecting the continent, the African official expressed optimism about the prospects for cooperation to achieve common goals.

Charumbira welcomed the development programs carried out by Morocco in recent years in all areas, noting that Africa needs to follow the path set by the Kingdom, instead of perpetuating conflicts.

In addition to the PAP President, Mayara met Monday with the Speaker of the Senate of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Modeste Bahati Lukwebo, and the Speaker of the Senate of Kenya, Amason Jeffah Kingi.

In a statement to MAP, the Moroccan official stressed that the meeting with Charumbira focused on ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, consolidate the performance of the Pan-African parliamentary institution, as well as the contribution of the Moroccan Parliament in hosting some of the activities of the PAP and support its expertise.
