Portugal and Morocco have agreed to raise their bilateral relations to the level of Global Strategic Partnership, based on the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation between the two countries, signed in May 1994, and the instruments of cooperation and dialogue that have enabled establishing a foundation based on solid foundations to develop bilateral relations in their political, economic and cultural dimensions, stressed the two countries in the joint statement issued at the end of the 14th High Level Meeting (HLM), held Friday in Lisbon.
While commending the depth that marks their political dialogue and the already strategic nature of their relations, the two countries affirm their willingness to deepen and expand their partnership, for a permanent dialogue and a concrete and mutually beneficial cooperation based on the principles of respect for their independence and territorial sovereignty, friendship and good neighborliness and peaceful settlement of disputes, said the joint statement.
As such, the document added, the two countries agree on creating a Partnership Council, co-chaired by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, which will serve as a framework for dialogue and consultation on bilateral, regional and international issues and may be open to the participation of other ministers.
The 14th Portugal-Morocco High Level Meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and the Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa.
Akhannouch led an important delegation composed of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah Alaoui, the Minister of Economic Inclusion Small Business, Employment and Skills Younes Sekkouri, the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social Economy Fatim-Zahra Ammor, and the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation Abdellatif Miraoui.
The delegation also includes the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Laila Benali, the Minister of Transport and Logistics Mohamed Benabdeljalil, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, and the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies Mohcine Jazouli.
