S. Korea Amb. stresses expertise exchange with Kuwait in smart cities

South Korean’s Ambassador in Kuwait Chung Byung-ha said Monday his country is willing to share its successful expertise in smart cities with Kuwait which plans to set up several smart cities.

The ambassador made the remark during the Conference on Smart Cities, held in Kuwait on Monday to mark the World Cities Day, which falls on October 31, in cooperation with the UN Office’s Resident Coordinator in Kuwait.

He said that Kuwait’s 2035 vision would eventually lead to a “smart Kuwait”, adding that the world is now subject to swift changes that pose challenges and benefits at the same time.

He elaborated that the term “smart cities” indicates future cities equipped with start-of-the-art technology and a platform to develop people’s life quality, revamp cities’ sustainability and encourage new industries by using innovative technologies.

The Korean ambassador pointed out that his country and Kuwait share the same views on several matters, extolling the conference as a new opportunity for officials, academicians and businessmen to have candid discussions and share views in this regard.

On his part, UN Secretary-General’s Representative and Resident Coordinator Dr. Tareq Al-Sheikh addressed the event by saying that the topic of smart cities goes in tandem with the priorities outlined by the UN on the post-pandemic digital transformation agenda.

He added that around seven out of 10 people worldwide would live in cities by 2050, noting that many cities are on their way to become smart sustainable cities based on information and communication technology.
